2009 Shaw Island Winter Classic

The Shaw Island Winter Classic is a race around Shaw Island starting and ending off the Orcas Ferry Landing.  Fortunately the weather was nice although it was somewhat cold given the time of year.  We had a reasonably good start and proceeded around the island in a clockwise fashion.  It wasn't until we reached the south end of the island that the wind filled in and we were able to put some time on the rest of the fleet.  Transiting Wasp Passage was nerve racking, but we managed to do it in three tacks before finishing at good speed. 

While we finished first, we ended up correcting to 3rd and winning a ceramic pig (with our name on it mind you) for our efforts.  Check out the following video taken by Joy of this event:
